The project I’m working on is a bit different for me. It still involves animation, which this time comes as part of the Redbridge magazine insert that Becca mentioned. The final thing is going to come in the form of an interactive DVD, so I’m using DVD Studio Pro a bit more intensely than I have done , as well as the usual AfterFX, Flash and Photoshop. When it’s done the aim is that it will be used in schools as a visual aid to discussion about various issues to do with young people ranging from their views on ’stop and search in London’ to ‘how old people see the young and vice versa’.

The DVD features an animated menu screen with characters waiting for a train. There’s a character for each topic of discussion and you simply click on them to hear a real discussion we recorded between a group of young people and adults on that issue. Whoever is taking the class can then start a discussion with pupils based on who agrees with what they have heard and who doesn’t.
Also a big part of the project is that the audio you will hear will be accompanied by some ‘kinetic typography’ to keep it interesting… haven’t done much with motion graphics – but we’ll see how it goes!
Below is a still of the work-in-progress kinetic typography:
