At Bold Creative, we are all really excited to be involved in The Day Project. The team took their first step towards creating the ground breaking graphic novel last week.
We worked with a small group to start collecting stories of their experiences of HIV. Everyone stepped up to the challenge bravely as they interviewed each other about major points in their lives affected by the condition, from taking medication, to chatting up girls, to explaining the situation to family members…
Read ALL about the project, keep up to date, and have the opportunity to get involved here http://thedayproject.org.uk/

At Bold Creative we have 3 Key values.
Smarter not Harder
People
Adventure.
Every Friday we have a Values session, where we do an activity that helps strengthen those key bold creative values.
This week, we went rock climbing in Mile End!
Martin & Greg are seasoned Pro’s so they showed us the ropes, quite literally!
It strengthened our sense of adventure, especially for the first timers, and we got more confident throughout the session, as well as teaching us something new it was a lot of fun!
Trusting each other to help on the belaying, was good for the people values too!
That is a picture of Kweku, who’s doing work experience with us at the moment, pretty adventurous!!

We were back at Body and Soul again this Thursday for our second workshop!
Ben got the group to start thinking about their characters.
Last week he asked all the kids to bring in something they felt resembled their character, or something that was important to them!
We had a mixed response from the guys that remembered, from fried chicken, through 1920s art deco lamps, to the Justin Burber album, and Ben’s dragonball z wallet!!
Once we had gone round and asked all the guys about their things, it was time to start some actual drawing!!

Ben had brought in a bunch of illustrations, some of his own work, and a collection of children’s books, to get the guys thinking about the style possibilities when coming up with a character.
Using this and the object for inspiration, they had to start to create a character of themselves.
The results were extremely varied, one massive afro, a grandma’s cardigan, a foxes mask, a chicken bone in the head.
In general we were impressed with how the guys got stuck in to the drawing and really enjoyed themselves!
Finally, after they had finished doing their own characters they passed them around and the guys had to have a go at interpreting what other people had drawn of themselves in their own styles!
This was another amusing game and helped understand different styles and gave the opportunity to add extra characteristics you felt they left, which could be anything from a saying to an extra arm borrowed from an octopus!
We had a ton of fun again and look forward to going back again this Thursday!!

We’re on the hunt for a super talented, ambitious fashion photographer to take part in a ground breaking project with young people in London. This would be a great opportunity to create stunning images for a portfolio.
We’re looking for someone who can help make young people like this

look like this:

The project would be perfect for a recent graduate photographer / make up artist / stylist team looking for some great material for their portfolio. We are looking for the whole team, and a studio to shoot this in. So if you have the skills, or know anybody who could help us out,

On Thursday Evening we went back to Body & Soul for the first Adobe Youth Voices workshop…
Ben is leading the sessions every Thursday for the next six weeks!

The aim is to teach participants how to draw, create interesting characters and how to use Adobe photoshop as an aid to make those characters look amazing and finished to a professional standard.
This was the first session so, after filling up on some delicious dinner, we spent this time really getting to know one another, the group are a great bunch of kids, and i think it is safe to say we all had a lot of fun!
Ben started with an ice breaker, getting us all to think of our favourite film and get the rest of the group to guess what it was without saying the name! Some were a lot easier that others!!
Next we played a game to get us thinking about characteristics, which would help the guys to develop their own characters. You had to first think of 10 for yourself, and then 5 for another member of the group! Again this had some very humorous results, and some members of the group had ALOT more to say than others! Ben was a popular target for the second part!

Finally we ended the session by playing the game (we had a lot of fun and games this time round) where you take it in turns to all draw a part of the body!

As you can see we had some interesting results! We’re all looking forward to going back again next Thursday where we will begin more drawing and individual character development!

A couple of weeks ago me and a few of the guys from bold went down to the Mile End Community Project to get them involved with Adobe Youth Voices an exciting new project that enables young people to express their ideas and creative flare through using Adobe software. The great thing for us and Adobe is that all the lads that hang out there already have brought there creative minds together to come up with ‘HOODFORTS’.
And for all you readers that are unaware of what ‘hoodforts’ is, check out the Video from the session;
(video coming soon)
So as you can see it was a very inspirational and creative session, making all the initial steps to creating a Promo film, Poster, and Hoodie design all based around the concept of ‘HOODFORTS’…
With loads more to come from the lads in the over christmas and in the new year!

Adobe Youth Voices- Body & Soul
Posted by Ben in Consultation, Design, Graphics, Illustration, WorkshopsSo Thursday night i presented the introduction to the Adobe Youth Voices project to the wonderfull young people at the Body & Soul Charaty. They where very warm and welcoming to what i had to say, even though i was a bumbling mess!
I told them about a project starting in the new year, where i will be teaching participants how to draw, how to create interesting characters and how to use Adobe photoshop as an aid to make your characters look amazing and finished to a professional standard.

These are some of the slides of my work i showed to inspire the young people into signing up for the project. There was lots of interest and it seemed many young people wanted to learn how to draw characters and have some fun doing it.
After i presented the project we all took part in a workshop making masks for the christmas ball at Body&Soul. We where making the masks to be warn by the young people for there masquerade ball. It was great fun to take part in some crafts with the young people, it was all rather crazy and i regressed to my 8 year old state of mind. So i made a Optimus Prime mask and a Batman mask with fire for hair!!! This promply got taken a shine to by a girl there. She then covered it all in purple glitter!!! From Batman to BatQueen it was amazing.
A great experance and a successfull night, looking forward to getting started in the new year.

Everyone at Bold Creative is in high spirits this week after winning a BAFTA for our “See Something Say Something” short film made for Nickelodeon about child bullying.
We all had a great night hanging out with Dick and Dom from Da Bungalow, Catherine Tate, and Richard Hammond!
Thanks to all the young people who took part and shared their experiences because without them this would not be possible!! This is a great team effort that everyone can be proud of! WAHOO!!
Martin, Greg and Jane discuss See Something Say Something minutes after winning the BAFTA!
And here is the animation that won us the prize!

Yesterday I finished adding sound FX and music to an animation Ben and me have been working on recently for T-Mobile. It’s a minute and a half short that joins others in the series of animations Bold have created for the online anti-bullying campaign “TXT UP”. It’s called “Molly’s Story” and we have tried to bring her story to life in a visually clean, abstract world of animation very loosely inspired by a bunch of illustrated posters we stumbled upon like “Jeremyville” mentioned a few posts back.
Here’s how it turned out:
